You know that feeling when something you've been working on for ages, like for example a new CD, is almost finished? And you just can't believe that this project, like the creation of a new CD, is almost done?
Well, that's how I'm feeling these days. But I'm not going to tell you why. But it might have something to do with my new CD.
I WILL tell you that I've got some great shows coming up in March. First, I'll be playing this Tuesday, March 9th at the Bread and Circus at 9pm with Matthew Campbell, Ben Birchard and Amanda Moscar.
Next, I'll be playing at Free Times Cafe on Tuesday, March 23rd at Free Times Cafe at 8:30pm with Amy Pitt and Nancy Silverman.
Finally, I'll be playing at C'est What? on Wednesday, March 31st around 9pm with Ben Kunder.
And that CD? Well, it's getting pretty close. News soon, my chickadees!
I'll be playing as a special guest of one of my VERY favorite singers tomorrow night, Sara Kamin. It's Sara's birthday show, and Sara has some other fantastic guests (Elena Hart, Amy Campbell and Linda M), including East Coast Music Award nominee Amelia Curran. I'll be playing a couple of tunes from the new CD, as well as a new cover requested by Sara.
It all goes down at the Rivoli tomorrow night! That's Thursday, February 11th, at the Rivoli (334 Queen St. W). Hope to see you there!
I'm very grateful to be performing tonight at a very special night of Curtains Down at the Pantages Martini Bar for Haiti relief. All of the artists will be singing songs with hopeful messages, and all proceeds will go directly to Oxfam and their Haiti relief efforts. It all starts around 8pm, and I hope you can make it. If not, please make sure you make a donation, however small, for the aid work in Haiti.
Happy New Year! Last night was the first show of '10, at the beautiful C'est What? on Front Street. Thanks to Sara Kamin and Sean Pinchin for sharing the stage - and to all those of you who were able to make it out, well, I just love ya. I do.
I've been invited to play for the Next Stage Festival this evening at 6:30 (if you haven't checked out this year's fringe hits, make it happen before they're gone!). The shows are happening at Factory Theatre (Adelaide and Bathurst), and I'll be playing in the big white tent that serves as the box office, bar, and concert hall. It's a short set, but if you're checking out a show, pop in and say hi!
Hip, hip, hooray!
Happy non-denominational holiday! How are you? Really? That's great.
I've been so busy with so many things, and a lot of them have not been entirely music-related... which is why we haven't seen eachother in a while. But, I have a lot of things that I can finally tell you about. Do you have a minute?
First, we're about 60% through recording my new album Little Thieves. One of my favorite bars, the Concord Cafe, has great acoustics... so thanks to some very friendly owners, I rented the entire bar and recorded all of the instruments for the album inside. This is all to say that the wheels are turning, and the new album will definitely be done in the next month or two. There's a lot kicking on the CD, and I really love it. I can't wait to hear what you think!
I took a bit of a haïtus from playin live, but two shows I'm thrilled to announce are my return to C'est What? with Sara Kamin and Sean Pinchin on Jan. 14th, and Sara Kamin's birthday show on Feb. 11 at the Rivoli. These are two great venues that constantly have great music going. I'll give you more details once the new year hits.
I miss you, and I miss playing for you, and I can't wait for whatever 2010 has in store for us all. Hopefully, crême brulée.
Wow - this past Monday was our biggest show to date at the Tranzac. Chloe and I played accompanied by Kelly Lefaive on violin in front of a fireplace to a full room. And next week promises to be even better, with even more surprises. If you want to make sure to get a seat, come a little bit early as our little chateau fills up fast!
Finally, off to Oakville tonight to duke it out for a spot at the upcoming Winterfolk festival in Toronto. Wish me luck - and if you're in the area, come to the Moonshine Cafe. It all starts at 9, and the winners will be announced tonight!
First, a big thanks to all who could make it out to my first band show at the Concord on Oct. 26th... it was, I think, super awesome, and I'm so glad you could make it. Hopefully it whet your appetite for my upcoming CD Little Thieves, to be released early in 2010.
Chloe and I are back at the Tranzac this Monday for our bi-weekly show and we would love to see you there! It runs from 8-10, and we'll both have some other musicians accompanying us on our songs. If you have been thinking about coming to a show but just haven't had the time, this will be a special one to check out. And we promise to play extra-special just for you!
As a heads up, I was selected to compete for a spot at the 2009 Winterfolk Festival in toronto... the auditions are public, and two artists will be selected that night to receive a spot at the upcoming Winterfolk Festival. My slot is Thursday, Nov. 5th at the Moonshine Cafe(137 Kerr St.) in Oakville, Ontario (my birthplace!). The show starts at 9, and once each artist has played two songs, the panel and audience will VOTE! What a nail biter... it would be great to have some friends in my corner! The festival is a great showcase and it would be a big deal to win a slot there!
So, to recap: Thursday, Nov. 5th, 9pm at the Moonshine Cafe(137 Kerr St.) in Oakville, ON. Also, it's PWYC.
And remember, fall behind on Sunday! Nothing like a couple months of cold and darkness to help you get perspective. Or, so I've been told.
Hello to all the new folks I met at OCFF (the Ottawa Council of Folk Festivals Conference)...! How inspiring it was to see how many people are hard at work sharing the music they've made. Although I was fighting a cold all weekend (a cold = early bedtimes = the opposite of OCFF = suck it up, Campbell), I had a fantastic experience and look forward to going back next year.
Chloe Charles and I played shows at Raw Sugar Cafe and Avant Garde, and caught some great performances all over the Crowne Plaza hotel in Ottawa.
Then, we were back to the Tranzac on Monday to play beside a somewhat-roaring fire for a super kind crowd. It sure is nice to be home!
The big news at the moment is that I'll be playing my first band teaser show next Monday, the 26th of October, at the Concord Cafe (right by Ossington Station, next door to Long and McQuade) in Toronto. We'll be sharing the bill with methus Bound and will be playing a handful of new songs that will be on my next CD, Little Thieves. I'll be going on at 9pm, with the next band going on at 10.
This will be my first time playing live with these guys, so I'd love to hear what you think!
Back to Ottawa! Chloe and I are heading out to the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals (OCFF) Conference this weekend to make some music and some new friends. If you're attending the conference, or just happen to be in the Ottawa area, check us out on Thursday, Oct. 15th at Raw Sugar Cafe (692 Somerset St. W) at 8pm and Friday, Oct. 16th at Avant Garde (135 1/2 Besserer St.).
Chloe and I both have brand new EPs that you can get a hold of. Mine have been made in a very limited run, so if you want a sneak-peek of four songs from my upcoming album Little Thieves, you can buy the EP for $5, or get it free with a copy of Patterns.
Finally, we'll be back for our bi-weekly at the Tranzac on Monday, the 19th at 8pm. Joining us this time is Drea, our new musical friend from Peterborough.
Chloe Charles and me are embarking on our final mini-tour this weekend and we would love to see you! Or, if you're not able to come, let your friends in the area know about the show - we would love to meet them!
Friday, Oct. 2 @ The Strega Cafe in St. Catharine's - 8pm
Saturday, Oct. 3 @ The Toronto Institute for the Enjoyment of Music as part of Nuit Blanche - 9pm
Sunday, Oct. 4th @ Free Times Cafein Toronto - 8pm
Monday, Oct. 5th @ The Tranzac Club - 8pm
Chloe and I just finished mini-tour 2 of 3, and we want to say a special thank-you to the Ossia in Peterborough (and our host Drea) as well as CJ and CJ's Cafe in Oakville. Thank you for letting us make some music in your town (Coincidentally, Oakville is where I was born and Sunday was my first time playing there)!
One more weekend of our travelling show! Photos and videos will be posted soon.
Back from mini-tour 1 of 3! A big thank-you and merci to Ottawa and Montréal! Chloe Charles and I loved making music for all of the folks there and couldn't have felt more welcome. Thank you to Avant Garde in Ottawa, and Burritoville and Shaïka Cafe in Montreal for giving us the chance to explore some new cities and play music in beautiful venues.
But wait, theres's more! Next weekend we'll be playing in Peterborough at the Ossia on Saturday, the 26th at 10pm, and at CJ's Cafe in Oakville on the 27th at noon.

| No upcoming shows. Stay tuned. |
